MS Dhoni dons wicket-keeping gloves with special insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces

India began their World Cup campaign on a high on Wednesday by defeating South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Rohit Sharma and Yuzvendra Chahal shined in their respective departments while the others chipped in as the Men in Blue had a decent day at the office. Even MS Dhoni had a fine outing as he scored 34 after coming out to bat in a tricky situation. However, more than anything, his wicketkeeping gloves attracted more attention which had a special insignia on it.

Regimental dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces was spotted on MS Dhoni’s gloves. The picture is going viral on social media at the moment and the veteran is winning hearts with his gesture. Dhoni himself is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment and in 2011, he was bestowed with the special honour. Also, this is not the first time that the former Indian captain has shown his love and respect towards the Indian Armed forces.

Team India’s gesture earlier this year

Earlier this year, even Team India had played with the military caps in a One-Day International in Ranchi during the series against Australia. The tension between India and Pakistan across the borders was high after the Pulwama attack and the IAF air-strikes which followed. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had criticised the move a lot and had also requested the International Cricket Council (ICC)to look into the matter.

However, ICC later cleared that the BCCI had already sought the permission for the same and they won’t be taking any action on Team India.

As far as their World Cup campaign is concerned, Virat Kohli and his men will next face Australia on Sunday (June 9) at the Kennington Oval in London. After a good show in Southampton, the team would be keen on putting up yet another clinical performance and continue their winning run in the tournament.
