Mohammed Shami to be back in India on September 12, in touch with his lawyer

Mohammed Shami is in a whole new muddle of a legal mess after an Alipore, Kolkata court issued an arrest warrant in his name, along with his brother on a domestic and sexual abuse complaint from his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. He was given 15 days to surrender and then apply for bail. Shami recently was in the West Indies, playing for India in the 2-Test series, which India won 2-0.

Shami’s lawyer has actually cleared the fact that the fast bowler has been asked to surrender in court and the warrant is not an arrest warrant. Shami was accused by his wife Hasin Jahan, who also named four of his family members, in a complaint filed a year ago accusing them of domestic violence. She had also made allegations of match-fixing against the fast bowler and claimed that he had extramarital affairs.

A senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) functionary has confirmed Shami’s return date to India and also the fact that he is in touch with his lawyer Salim Rahaman. “Shami has gone to the US after the tour of West Indies got over and he will be back in the country on the 12th. He has been in constant touch with his lawyer on the court matter and has also spoken to the relevant people within the board on the matter,” the functionary was quoted as saying by India Today.

The Indian cricket board has already clarified that no action will be taken against Shami until they have a look at the charge sheet. “Yes, we do understand that an arrest warrant has been issued. But don’t really see us getting involved in this at this point in time. Once we see the charge sheet, we can decide how things stand and if the BCCI constitution calls for any action. But at this point in time, I would say it is too early to take a call on the matter,” the functionary had said.

Meanwhile, Hasin Jahan is confident of getting justice in her fight against Shami. She said that if Asaram Bapu and Ram Rahim failed to dodge the Indian judiciary, then Shami is nothing in front of them. She admitted that she had lost hope and felt that the case would be brushed under the carpet, but is reenergized to find that her allegations against the bowler have been proved to be correct.” The judicial system is the same for all. I am really happy and thankful for giving me justice and understanding my pain,” she had said.
