Jofra Archer rules out BBL stint; wishes to spend more time with family

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has ruled himself out of the 2020-21 edition of the Biga Bash League (BBL). The speedster said that he’s had enough of ‘bubbles’ in the current year and all he wishes for is spending quality time in the physical presence of his family. In the BBL, the 25-year-old Archer plies his trade for Hobart Hurricanes and has 35 wickets from 28 matches.

Archer is currently a part of the three-match ODI series against Australia that ends on Wednesday, September 16. Thereafter, the Barbados-born would head to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting Saturday, September 19.

Archer said that he hasn’t seen his family since the month of February, and December is the only time he could spend some time with them. Apart from the domestic fixtures, Archer is also aware of the international calendar that lies ahead.

I love my Hobart family: Jofra Archer
“I’ll tell you; it has been mentally challenging. I‘ll be honest with you, I don’t know if I have much more bubbles left in me for the rest of the year. I haven’t seen my family, really, since February,” Archer was quoted as saying on Fox Sports.

“The IPL is going to be most of October, November, we’re going to South Africa hopefully as well. That only leaves me with a few weeks in December for the rest of the year. I love my Hobart family, but I think I need to spend some time with my real family as well,” Archer stated.

“When the year turns, we’re going to be back in the bubble in the UAE and then India. Family time is really important, especially when you actually cannot see them physically. So, any time off I’m going to spend with them,” he added.

The 2020 BBL starts on December 3 with the Hurricanes set to play their first match against defending champions Sydney Sixers on Friday, December 4 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. As far as the IPL is concerned, Archer plies his trade for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) after being picked by the franchise back in the 2018 edition.
