IPL 2020: Yuvraj Singh comes out in support of KL Rahul after latter’s captaincy is criticised

The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper KL Rahul is being  criticised for a few decisions he made in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday. Of all, Krishnappa Gowtham bowling the final over of the innings with Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya going berserk has come under the scanner a lot. Gowtham was hit for four sixes in the over as MI posted a mammoth total of 191 runs on the board.

With no proper death bowler left apart from Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul handed the ball to Jimmy Neesham and Gowtham in the final few overs and that literally cost KXIP the match. They ended up conceding 104 runs in the last six overs and went on to lose the match by 48 runs. However, amidst all the criticism, Rahul has got a support from former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj took to Twitter to express his opinion on the matter and stated that KL Rahul’s criticism is unfair as he is in the early days of his captaincy and will only improve from here on. He also urged the critics to look at the positives as well.

Tough game for @lionsdenkxip last night as @mipaltan were the better team on the day But @klrahul11 getting bit of a flack for bowling an offie in last over I feel is a bit unfair. We all make mistakes and as a new skip we should all look at the positives that he has brought on,” the tweet read.

Here’s Yuvraj Singh’s tweet:

KL Rahul criticised for his team selection as well

Meanwhile, KL Rahul is criticised for his team selections as well. Karun Nair playing despite not performing well isn’t making the fans happy as a talented player like Mandeep Singh is being benched while Deepak Hooda is yet to get a game as well. Moreover, Jimmy Neesham playing ahead of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Chris Jordan also seems to be a wrong decision at the moment.

The Kiwi all-rounder hasn’t contributed as expected in the last couple of games and calls for his axing are growing now. Moreover, many are baffled to see Sheldon Cottrell not bowling the death overs against MI. The West Indies pacer was taken apart for 30 runs in an over. Having lost three matches out of four already, there is little room for error for KXIP now and they will have to pull their socks up to keep themselves alive in the tournament.
