IPL 2020: Rajiv Shukla calls the Twitter banter between RR and SRH as “not appropriate for the spirit of the game”

Indian Premier League (IPL) is entertaining everyone with some nail-biting finishes and extraordinary performances. While players are amusing the fans with their performances on the field, the social media handles of the various teams are captivating everyone with their witty tweets. However, Rajeev Shukla, the former Chairman of IPL didn’t like the ongoing banter between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad and called it “not appropriate for the spirit of the game”.

It all started with RR posting a funny tweet after their team defeated SRH in the first encounter. They came up with a tweet ordering ‘a large Hyderabadi Biryani’. However, as SRH beat them in a one-sided affair in Dubai, the orange army came up with a hilarious tweet to cancel RR’s order.

Here’s the banter:

The repartee became viral within minutes and several netizens liked it but Rajeev Shukla didn’t like the whole idea and shared his point of view on the same. The politician and former IPL chairman wrote, “Haha for being witty it’s fine but in my view, these kind of tweets from both the sides are not appropriate for the spirit of the game.”

Here’s his tweet:

An easy win for SRH in a must-win encounter
The contest at Dubai was a must-win game for both the teams. As both RR and SRH had lost 6 matches in the tournament, one more loss meant almost an exit from the tournament. After inviting RR to bat first, SRH grabbed the control of the game since the first ball and didn’t allow the Royals to score freely. The pressure and an out of form batting order led RR to score only 154 in their 20 overs.

However, while chasing the same, SRH didn’t start on the right note as well. They lost a couple of early wickets and a fast and furious Jofra Archer was looking unplayable. As the target was modest, Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar constructed a solid foundation which grew into a match-winning partnership.

SRH chased down the total rather comfortably with Manish Pandey winning the Player of the Match award for his amazing fifty. With this win, SRH has kept their playoffs hopes alive and RR’s qualification now depends on other results apart from winning their last 3 games.
