IPL 2020: Match 40, RR vs SRH – Pandey’s record knock, SRH’s record partnership and more stats

Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their first win in four matches as they got the better of Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in Dubai. The Royals got off to a decent start after electing to bat first but were pulled back by Jason Holder’s 3-wicket haul and Rashid Khan’s economical spell. Chasing 155 to win, Sunrisers lost their both openers in the first three overs in the bowling of Jofra Archer. But Manish Pandey’s (83*) aggressive approach helped SRH to cruise in the chase along with Vijay Shankar (52*).

Here are all the statistical highlights from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 8-wicket win during RR vs SRH:
SRH’s 100% win record against RR:
3/3 – Sunrisers Hyderabad won all the three matches while chasing in the IPL against the Rajasthan Royals. SRH won chasing the targets of 126 and 199 against the Royals in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Sunrisers won four of the ten IPL games against RR while defending a total.

Record partnership to SRH’s rescue:
1 – Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar, during RR vs SRH, became the first Indian pair to share a century partnership in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 89-run opening stand by Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan against KKR in 2013 was the previous highest IPL partnership for SRH by an Indian pair. The duo of Pandey and Shankar is also the first set of Indians to score fifties in the same IPL match for the Sunrisers.

140* – The unbeaten 140-run stand between Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar is now SRH’s 4th highest partnership and the highest for 3rd wicket in the IPL. The previous highest 3rd wicket stand for SRH was 135 between Pandey and Kane Williamson against RCB in 2018.

Pandey’s record knock:
8 – Number of sixes Manish Pandey has struck during his unbeaten 83-run knock in RR vs SRH; the joint-most during an IPL inning by any player for Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner also hit eight maximums during his 126 against KKR in 2017 edition.

Pandey’s 8 sixes are the 3rd most in an IPL match for any player against Rajasthan Royals. Only Murali Vijay of CSK (11 sixes during 127) in 2010 and Dinesh Karthik for KKR (9 sixes during 97*) in 2019 hit more sixes in an IPL game against Royals than Manish.

83* – Manish Pandey’s unbeaten 83 in RR vs SRH is now the joint 2nd highest individual IPL score by an Indian for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten 92 in 2018 against Delhi Daredevils while Pandey scored 83* against Chennai Super Kings in 2019 as well.

Warner falls to Jofra again:
6 – Jofra Archer has dismissed David Warner on six out of seven occasions in 2020 across all formats. The Australian managed to score only 32 runs against Archer across seven meetings this year.

2016 – The last instance of David Warner getting dismissed in the first over of an IPL inning was way back in 2016. Warner was dismissed for a 4-ball duck in the bowling of Ashok Dinda. Warner faced at least one ball during the first over of an IPL inning across as many as 45 games between the two 1st over dismissals.
