IPL 2020: Match 20, MI vs RR – MI end their RR jinx, Buttler’s hat-trick, Bumrah’s 4-fer and more stats

Mumbai Indians cruised to their 4th win of the IPL 2020 by thumping the Rajasthan Royals to a huge 57-run margin on Tuesday. Mumbai, electing to bat first yet again, posted 193/4 in their 20 overs despite slowing down in the middle overs. Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 47-ball 79 ensured the start MI got did not go in vain. The Mumbai’s pace attack turned out to be too harsh over the Royals by bundling them to 136 with nine pace wickets. Jos Buttler’s 44-ball 70 did create a scare in the MI but lack of support saw a walk in the park for the home side.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Mumbai Indians’ third consecutive win of IPL 2020:
MI end their RR jinx in style:
1 – Rajasthan Royals have lost to Mumbai Indians for the first time since their return to the IPL in 2018. MI lost to Royals in four meetings across 2018 and 2019 editions; all while defending a total.

57 – Mumbai Indians’ 57-run margin in this MI vs RR match is their biggest win in terms of runs against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Their previous biggest win over Royals was by 37 runs in the 2010 season’s away fixture. Royals are the 6th team which MI defeated by 50 or more runs in the IPL history.

Bumrah’s maiden 4-fer:
4/20 – Jasprit Bumrah’s 4/20 in the MI vs RR match was his maiden 4-wicket in Twenty20 cricket. His figures are also the best for Bumrah Indians in an IPL game against Rajasthan Royals bettering Munaf Patel’s 4/28 in the 2012 season’s home game.

4/20 – Bumrah’s figures of 4/20 are also the 2nd best by a pacer in the IPL against the Rajasthan Royals. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4/14 during the 2014 edition match held in Ahmedabad.

10 – Jasprit Bumrah now has ten 3-wicket hauls in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. These are the joint 4th most 3-fers by a player in the IPL for a single franchise. Only Lasith Malinga (19 for MI), Sunil Narine (12 for KKR) and Amit Mishra (11 for Delhi) are ahead of Bumrah in this list.

Buttler’s hat-trick against MI:
3 – Jos Buttler has scored a fifty in each of his last three innings in the IPL against Mumbai Indians. Buttler has amassed 253 in those three matches with scores of 94*, 89 and 70 which will be among the top ten IPL scores of RR against MI.

6020 – Jos Buttler now has aggregated 6020 runs in his Twenty20 career making him the 5th England cricketer to achieve the milestone of 6000 T20 runs. Buttler also completed 250 sixes in T20s during MI vs RR and became the 4th English player to do so.

De Kock goes past Parthiv:
24 – Quinton de Kock now has claimed 24 catches in the IPL for Mumbai Indians; the most catches by a keeper for MI in the IPL. De Kock went past Parthiv Patel’s 22 catches which he took while representing MI between 2015 and 2017 editions.

Overall, De Kock has affected 44 dismissals in the IPL including 35 catches which are the 2nd most by an overseas keeper in the IPL behind Adam Gilchrist (67 dismissals incl. 51 catches). The three catches during MI vs RR game helped De Kock go past Kumar Sangakkara (67 dismissals incl. 51 catches).

Not a great game for No.4s:
2 – The No.4 batters of both MI (Ishan Kishan) and RR (Sanju Samson) got dismissed for a duck in this MI vs RR match. This is only the 2nd game in the history of IPL where both No.4 batters were dismissed without scoring. The 2010 season match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi was the other.
