IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing team in CSK vs SRH

The three-time champions made several changes in their playing for the game 14, CSK vs SRH. The team was looking more balanced with numerous bowling options and depth in the batting order. But the result remains exactly the same as it has been from the last 2 matches. SRH defeated CSK by 7 runs, MS Dhoni was so close yet so far away from the target.

Their bowling unit looked more confident against SRH as they dismissed their top 4 players with ease. However, the duo of Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma stitched an amazing partnership to take SRH to a decent total of 164. The game was almost in SRH’s control as they removed the top four CSK batsmen for 42 but MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a partnership, only to lose it in the final over. With another defeat, CSK needs to find several answers which can take them on the right track finally.

Here are the 3 mistakes committed by losing team in game 14, CSK vs SRH:-
1. Not letting Piyush Chawla complete his spell
Piyush Chawla is the leading spinner and the wicket-taker of CSK in this season. He bowled quite well in tonight’s game as well and dismissed SRH skipper David Warner. However, after bowling the 13th over of SRH innings, Dhoni didn’t let him bowl the fourth one and let his pacers take the charge. If the profound wicket-taker would have dismissed anyone of Abhishek Sharma or Priyam Garg, the partnership could have been broken and SRH’s total could have been restricted.

2. Playing too defensively against Rashid Khan
When Jadeja came to the crease, CSK needed 123 off 70 balls and they needed to attack. But, Dhoni and Jadeja didn’t try to go big against Rashid as he is a wicket-taker. In his four overs, he went for 12 runs at an economy of 3 runs per over and that turned out to be the difference between the two sides. If this duo would have milked some singles against him and would have taken some chances, things could have turned out differently.

3. Taking it too deep
The Ranchi stalwart approached this chase in proper Dhoni style. The CSK skipper and Jadeja tried to take the game too deep and the required run rate was almost 20 in the last four overs which started from 8.25 in the beginning. As Dhoni knew that it will be difficult to hit in the end, considering the quality of death bowling SRH possess and the dry conditions, maybe for once, this chase could have been handled differently. In the end, the difference was only 7 runs and the game could have been on either side if Dhoni would have attacked a bit early.
