‘I’m dead inside’ – James Neesham mentally exhausted after watching KXIP’s Super Over game against MI

Back on July 14, 2019, James Neesham, the New Zealand all-rounder, was involved in a Super Over affair against England in the World Cup final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He scored a number of runs, including a six off Jofra Archer. But his efforts went in vain as Martin Guptill was run out at the striker’s end to give the hosts their maiden WC championship.

Then in September, on his birthday, Neesham was a part of the Super Over contest, playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2019 CPL. Yet another time, his team ended on the losing side as Carlos Brathwaite took Neesham to the cleaners at the death. A couple of months later, Neesham played in a Super Over game against the Brits in a T20I.

Punjab get over the line
The 30-year-old is currently playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In their ninth game, the Mohali-based franchise played as many as two rounds of Super Overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Though Neesham wasn’t a part of the match, he witnessed the game from the dugout with a lot of emotions.

In the end, KXIP won the game in the second one-over eliminator after being asked to chase down 12 runs. Chris Gayle smashed Trent Boult for a six over long-on after which Mayank Agarwal smacked a couple of fours to take KXIP home in the nail-biting contest.

In the meantime, a fan asked Neesham about his secret of staying calm in tense situations. The user wrote on Twitter, “I wonder how @JimmyNeesh keeps his nerves calm during such games. Please help us with some tips neesham.”

Neesham sounded a bit tired in his reply after being involved in a plethora of one-over eliminators. He replied to the fan and wrote, “I am dead inside.”

Here’s James Neesham’s tweet:

As far as Neesham is concerned, he hasn’t played a whole lot of games. In the three matches he has played, he has seven runs. With the ball, he has picked a solitary wicket and leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.50.
