Even after completing the yo-yo test, I was not selected: Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was out of the ODI team for more than three years. Between December 2013 and January 2017, the former Punjab-born player was constantly entering and leaving the T20I side. He also played a pair of World T20s (in 2014 and 2016). However, a return from ODI eluded him.

But only a few months before the 2017 Champions Trophy, the left-hander won a call to the team over 50 and hit the coveted 4th place. In only his second ODI after returning To the side, the left-handed hit a majestic 150 in the second ODI against England in Cuttack. He was later elected to the Champions Trophy and won the prize for the player of the match in the first league game of India.

However, his form dropped as the tournament progressed. Yuvraj Singh scored 105 runs in four innings in that tournament. He played three games in the Caribbean also where he was able to gather only 57 races. Subsequently, he struggled with physical fitness and was ruled out due to an injury. Since then, he never returned to the squad, since physical fitness was one of his greatest enemies.

Yuvraj’s amazing revelation
However, in his last interview, he revealed that he was fired without ceremonies on one side. Yuvraj was asked to prepare for the Sri Lankan series before the yoyo test entered the scene. Despite clarifying that, he was asked to return to domestic cricket. Therefore, there was no clear communication.

“I never thought that they would leave me after being the man of the game in 2 games of the 8-9 that I played after the 2017 Champions Trophy. I got injured and they told me to prepare for the series from Sri Lanka. Then, suddenly, the yoyo test came on the scene. It was a change of direction in my selection. Suddenly I had to go back and prepare for the yoyo exam at age 36. “Even after passing the exam of yoyo, they told me to play domestic cricket. In fact, they thought I could not erase the test because of my age. And that it would be easy to reject me later … yes, you can say it was an exercise to make excuses, “Yuvraj said in an exclusive conversation with Aaj Tak.

The left-hander continued to play domestic cricket and the IPL for a couple of years before hanging up his boots earlier this year.
