Alzarri Joseph spotted in Mumbai Indians practice session ahead of the IPL 2020 opener

The defending and four-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will embark on their journey on the opening day of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday. They will face the arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who were the finalists last season. Both the teams will be missing their ace players like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Lasith Malinga.

But there is no scarcity of talent and star presence in the MI and CSK camp and it is expected to be a thriller of a start to the much-awaited season. However, ahead of the tournament opener, a new face was seen in the MI nets which has caught the attention of the fans. Chris Lynn’s video interview was published on the official Twitter handle of the franchise on Friday.

In the video, the Australian batsman was shown sweating it out in the nets while the Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph was bowling at him. The latter isn’t the part of any team for the IPL 2020 as he went unsold in the auction. He played for the same franchise last year in three matches but was a replacement player and went into the auction again.

His debut was a memorable one as the pace bowler registered the best ever figures in the cash-rich league ever. Against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he picked 6/12 to enter his name into the record books. However, after playing a couple more matches, Joseph got injured and was ruled out of the tournament.

Is any player injured in the MI camp?

Alzarri Joseph is definitely not a net bowler as most of the teams have picked the Indian youngsters for that job. This leaves with a possibility of one of the players in the MI camp getting injured ahead of the season. The 23-year-old is likely to be a back-up and if he is a replacement, the official announcement is expected to come soon.

Considering the stringent quarantine rules amid COVID-19 pandemic, the MI franchise might be playing safe as well to have a back up in case any player gets injured during the tournament.
