The official handle of Cricket World Cup even shared a video on Twitter in which the trio was seen enjoying an indoor game of cricket as the ground crew were trying to dry the ground for the game.

 

Akram was too busy but for what?

But one individual was ‘not impressed’ with this alternative occupation and it was Akram’s Australian-born wife Shaniera. Married to the legend since 2013, Shaniera took to Twitter to reveal a short family story in which she said she saw the video of the commentators enjoying inside the box just after her husband told her that he was “extremely busy” and had to call her back.

We didn’t know what Akram, who has 502 wickets in ODIs and was the man of the final in the 1992 edition, had prepared for his self-defence but he certainly had no fault in this. Old habits indeed die hard, especially in the company of like-minded individuals.

The wash-out, meanwhile, saw the former champions Pakistan and Lanka sharing a point each from the game. Pakistan fans, however, noticed some pleasing similarity with their team’s journey in the 1992 World Cup that they had won. That year, too, Pakistan started off with a 10-wicket loss to the West Indies and then beat Zimbabwe while their match against England in Adelaide was washed out and they shared a point despite getting all-out for just 74.
