Ranking teams based on their points in IPL history

The Indian Premier League has been one of the most popular and fiercely contested T20 tournaments across the globe. Teams in each and every game they play, bring nothing less than their A-game on to the field, making sure that their opponent does not get an easy workaround in any situation. In every edition, the teams even on the last day are fighting for a place in the playoffs, with the margins being as tight as a single point.

Coming into this season of the tournament, the conditions would completely different for the players due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected people both mentally and physically. So, one of the major motivating factors for them would be having a look at their past performances and getting a motivation to continue their winning run or work harder to improve on what they have done in the previous seasons.

So, here’s a look at where each team stands in terms of the number of points they have gathered over the years:

The winners of the very first season of the Indian Premier League, the Rajasthan Royals have been so close yet so far from the trophy. After winning the first edition of the tournament, where they finished at the top of the points table, with 22 points in their bag, they have kind of had an up and down run in the tournament.

The team since the first season have been giving their best year after year, but things have not gone the way they would have wanted to. Their best phase came when they ended the tournament at the 3rd, 5th, and 4th spot in the points table before they were suspended for the tournament for two years, along with the Chennai Super Kings.

In their 2018 season, the one where they made a comeback into the tournament, they ended up at the fourth spot in the table, not being able to get past the semi-finals stage. In IPL 2020, RR bagged the wooden spoon with just 12 points.
