MS Dhoni is teaching youngsters some discipline in quarantine: Dean Jones

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to mark the return of MS Dhoni, who hasn’t played competitive cricket since the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. However, barring some unexpected occurring, he will be seen in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) opening match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2020 opener on Saturday, September 19.

Now that he has retired from international cricket, fans would be eager to get a glimpse of their favourite son. Over the years, he has conjured praises from many and the latest to join the bandwagon is Dean Jones, the former Australian cricketer.

Jones, lauding Dhoni, said that the 39-year-old treads the ‘conservative’ path and waits for the opponents to make a mistake. He also placed Dhoni among his top five Indian players of all-time. Jones put forth his opinions on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

People will always remember what MS Dhoni has done, says Jones
“MS Dhoni is captain cool. He doesn’t sweat but he hasn’t played cricket for 14 months. He has had a camp back in Chennai. He is teaching some of the young guys back in quarantine some discipline because there is a lot of discipline in his game,” Jones told.

“And as a captain, he is quite conservative in his tactics. But he waits for you to make a mistake and then the cobra goes for the squeeze. People will always remember what he has done. He will be in my top five Indian players of all time,” he stated.

In the meantime, former Aussie paceman Brett Lee also talked about the difference in Dhoni and Rohit Sharma’s leadership styles.

“What I will say is that someone like a Rohit Sharma has got good stats. I am just going to say that they are both tremendous captains but different captains. So, you got one captain that is super laid back while the other captain is aggressive in the way he sets the field. But they both get the job done,” Jones added.

Rohit and Dhoni are the two most successful captains in the IPL. Even as Rohit as four IPL titles to his name, MSD has taken CSK to the playoffs every time, winning the championship thrice.
