‘It would have been great to bowl to Kohli or Rohit in PSL’ – Mohammad Amir on keeping politics away from sports
The ace pacer of Pakistan Mohammad Amir feels that cricket stars of India and Pakistan should come together to mark their presence in the world’s best T20 leagues like IPL of PSL. He believes that politics should be kept away, and players must participate in the game in its very spirit. It is a well-known fact that Amir’s tactics have troubled the class batsman Virat Kohli on several occasions while the two nations locked horns in ICC events.
Amir stated that he would love to bowl against the world’s top batsmen like Rohit Sharma or Indian skipper Kohli. If they would have been part of the Pakistan Super League, the pacer would have enjoyed the top-notch challenge. Amir has never been part of IPL like many other Pakistan players owing to political controversies between two neighboring countries.
I love challenges like bowling to top-notch batsmen: Mohammad Amir
“We have always said, as players, that cricket or any other sport, and politics should be kept separate. I love challenges like bowling to top-notch batsmen, and it would have been great to bowl to them [Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma],” said Amir in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.
The left-arm pacer opined that allowing cricketers in both the leagues would be beneficial for them in terms of developing their skills ahead. BCCI allowed the Pakistan cricketers to be part of the inaugural edition of IPL, where 11 Pakistani marked their presence, including the likes of Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi.
“Be it the IPL or PSL, it would be beneficial for players, from Pakistan and India, playing in these competitions in terms of exposure and quality of cricket,” added Amir.
Amir could never form a part of the cash-rich league. Only one Pakistan player Azhar Mahmood made it to IPL after BCCI banned the nation due to political issues. He played under a British passport. Fans enjoy a tight competition between Amir and Indian batsmen, and therefore, it would be a thing to watch whether he gets the chance to play IPL in near future or not. He is set to come in action for Galle Gladiators in the upcoming LPL.
