IPL 2020: Qualifier 1, MI vs DC – Statistical Preview

The defending champions Mumbai Indians will be up against Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier on Thursday having beaten them both the times during the league phase. The return on their skipper Rohit Sharma does improve the team combination of Mumbai who also ensured their pace bowlers remain fresh enough ahead of the playoffs. The Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, got the better of Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league match and also put an end to their 4-match losing streak.

Here are all the key stats and numbers ahead of the first qualifier, MI vs DC in Dubai on Thursday:
1-5 – The Delhi Capitals/Daredevils have got a win-loss record of 1-5 in the knockout/playoff stage in the IPL. Their victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2019 Eliminator was the only time when they won a knockout/playoff match in the IPL. The Delhi franchise lost on all five instances where they played a semi-final/qualifier match in the IPL.

2-2 – Mumbai Indians have a win-loss record of 2-2 while playing the first qualifier match in the IPL. They won in the 2015 and 2019 editions quite comfortably but ended up on the losing side by a big margin during 2013 and 2017 seasons. However, Mumbai ended up winning the title in all those four seasons.

3 – Mumbai Indians has won each of their last three meetings against the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Before this streak, the MI team suffered a hat-trick of defeats in the hands of the Delhi franchise (DD/DC).

5 – Rishabh Pant has been dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah on five instances in the IPL thus far. Pant faced 30 balls in the IPL against Bumrah and scored 32 runs with help of two fours and two sixes.

100 – The MI vs DC match on Thursday will mark the 100th appearance in the IPL for Suryakumar Yadav. No player till date has featured in as many as 100 matches in the IPL before International debut. Suryakumar is inching close to 2000 runs in the league having struck 1954 runs thus far.

198 – Kieron Pollard is only two sixes away from completing 200 sixes in the IPL. Pollard, when he hits those two sixes, will only be the 6th player with as many as 200 sixes in the IPL thus far and also the first to hit 200 IPL sixes for Mumbai Indians.

3992 – Rohit Sharma needs eight more runs to become the first player to complete 4000 runs in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. Rohit has scored 2957 of those while leading the MI team in the IPL and needs 43 more to complete 3000 IPL runs as captain. Sharma is also only 96 runs away from becoming the 2nd Indian to reach 9000 T20 runs.
