IPL 2020: Match 29, SRH vs CSK – Curran and Jadeja’s all-round efforts, A new record for CSK and more stats
Chennai Super Kings return to winning ways following a clinical 20-run victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first game batting first in IPL 2020. On a slow Dubai track, Shane Watson (42) and Ambati Rayudu (41) handled the middle overs while cameos by Sam Curran (31 off 21) and Ravindra Jadeja (25* off 10) powered CSK to 167/6. Kane Williamson’s 39-ball 57 was the only saviour for the Sunrisers during their tricky chase which ended at only 147/8.
Here are all the statistical highlights from Chennai Super Kings’ 20-run win during SRH vs CSK:
New record for the Super Kings:
1 – Chennai Super Kings are now the first team to win as many as ten matches in the IPL against all the remaining seven active teams. The Tuesday’s win was the 10th victory in the IPL for CSK against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Only Kolkata Knight Riders (11) won more IPL games against SRH than CSK thus far.
CSK gets to bat first finally:
10 – The SRH vs CSK was the first time Chennai Super Kings batted first in ten IPL matches. They were chasing a target in all the seven previous matches in IPL 2020 and also were batting second during the last year’s 2nd qualifier and the final. The first qualifier of IPL 2019 against MI was the last time CSK batted first during an IPL match.
Curran and Jadeja’s all-round efforts:
2 – Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja became only the 2nd pair in IPL history to score 25+ runs, pick a wicket and also take a catch in the same match for a team during SRH vs CSK. Shaun Pollock and Dominic Thornely achieved this double in the same game for Mumbai Indians during the 2008 edition against Delhi Daredevils.
8 – Sam Curran is only the 8th player in the history of IPL to score 30+ runs as an opener and also pick a wicket while opening the bowling. Since the start of 2015 season, Sunil Narine (vs KXIP, Indore 2018) and Curran are only players to achieve this double in the IPL.
Faf’s first duck in six years:
3 – Faf du Plessis now has been dismissed for a duck on three occasions in the IPL. His first two ducks came during the 2014 edition against SRH and against KXIP in the qualifier. Du Plessis has batted in 47 innings across 50 matches in the IPL between his 2nd and 3rd ducks.
A rare runout dismissal for Pandey:
2016 – Manish Pandey has been dismissed run out for the first time since the 2016 tour of Zimbabwe. The runout dismissal during SRH vs CSK was Pandey’s first in the past 94 T20 innings. This was also the first runout dismissal of Manish in 57 innings in the IPL. Last time Pandey got runout in the IPL was back in 2015 season against MI in Mumbai.
Rashid gets hit wicket:
4 – Rashid Khan is now the 4th player of Sunrisers Hyderabad to be dismissed hit wicket in the IPL history. Deepak Hooda, David Warner and Yuvraj Singh got hit wicket while playing for SRH in the 2016 edition. No other team had recorded more than two hit wicket dismissals in the IPL.
