IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in RCB vs DC

Royal Challengers Bangalore found themselves on the losing side in RCB vs DC game after winning two consecutive matches. Their bowling looked out of touch and with a hefty collapse in the initial overs, they failed to chase down the mammoth total. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, grabbed the top spot of the points table with this convincing victory.

DC started with a solid opening stand at the top but with three quick wickets but RCB pulled the game back. However, Bangalore’s bowlers received an extreme hammering from Marcus Stoinis in the second half of the Delhi innings which ensured a massive total of 196 for DC. With this loss, Kohli and company need to figure out a better game plan to make their team return to the winning track.

Here are the three mistakes committed by RCB in RCB vs DC:-
1. Opting to chase
The team which has opted to bat first has won all the games at Dubai this season except the game between CSK vs KXIP. RCB opted to bowl first after winning the toss because of the dew factor and it turned out to be a precarious move. The pitch became extremely slow in the second innings while the ball was coming on the bat quite easily in the first innings.

Also, with such a massive total on the board, RCB’s batting unit came under pressure and the collapse happened at the top. If RCB would have opted to bat first, things could have turned out differently and they would have had a better chance to create pressure.

2. Leaking so many runs in the middle overs
After making a comeback into the match by picking three wickets in a short duration, RCB’s bowling unit leaked heavy runs in the middle overs. The duo of Marcus Stoinis and Rishabh Pant scored 59 off 24 balls from 13th to 17th overs. This turned out as game-changing and it also allowed the momentum to go in DC’s favour.

3. No intent to play 20 overs
RCB were never looking confident of chasing the massive total down as soon as they lost three early wickets. Virat Kohli stayed there for long to keep their hopes alive but as soon the skipper departed, RCB’s batting line-up fell like a pack of cards. RCB already had the worst Net run-rate in the tournament and they should have made sure that a frontline batsman stays till the end to take them as close to the target as possible. This 59-run defeat has made their run-rate worse and it can create serious trouble at the business end of the tournament.
