IPL 2020: 3 Mistakes committed by the losing side in KXIP vs SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad faced an embarrassing defeat against KXIP as they failed to chase 127 runs. They had everything going their way since the beginning as they won the toss and invited KXIP to bat first. SRH’s bowlers did a fabulous job as they picked up wickets at regular intervals and kept a check on the run rate as well to restrict KXIP at 126.

While chasing a low target, SRH’s openers laid a solid foundation for their batting order but a middle-order collapse hurt them bad. With KXIP bowlers continuing with a decent line and length, SRH failed to get their chase going. However, it was SRH’s game to lose and if anybody is to blame for this, it is themselves only. With their seventh defeat in the season, SRH’s playoffs chances have become quite difficult.

Here are the three mistakes committed by SRH against KXIP:-
1. SRH’s batsmen threw their wickets which created panic
SRH was in an extremely comfortable situation with 52/0 after six overs. All they needed was to rotate the strike and they could have reached the target with ease. However, their batsmen tried to play glory shots which were not needed and they kept on losing wickets. This sudden collapse resulted in a panic situation and an easy target converted into a tricky one.

2. Indian capped batsmen didn’t take responsibility
Apart from having David Warner and Jonny Bairstow at the top, SRH’s middle order has strong Indian middle-order batsmen as well. In Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar, they have two players who have played a fair amount of international cricket. However, even after getting settled, both of them didn’t emphasize on rotating strike and played several dot balls. If they could have batted responsibly, things could have turned out differently.

3. Experimenting with an already settled batting order
As it was a must-win the game for SRH and they should have kept it as simple as possible. However, they tried to tinker a settled batting order after getting a solid start and then things started to fall apart. They sent their finisher, Abdul Samad up the order as they felt it is going to be an easy chase. Also, there were other changes in the batting order as well which could have been avoided considering the importance of the game. If SRH could have followed their regular pattern, this chase could have been a cakewalk.
