India vs South Africa | Pace at Which Kohli Scored has Given us Extra Time to Get 20 Wickets: Mayank
Pune: The rapid pace at which Captain Virat Kohli scored his double hundred has given Indian bowlers enough time to get 20 South African wickets, starter Mayank Agarwal acknowledges.
Kohli’s best score in the 254 test and his 225-race stand with Ravindra Jadeja (91) in just 39.1 envelopes formed the cornerstone of the 601 mammoth of India for five declared.
Kohli’s big hit reached an impressive hit rate of 75.59 when he hit 35 limits, including two six, in his 336-ball innings.
“It has definitely put us in the driver’s seat and it is not just the number of races, but at what rate they have reached those races has made a big difference,” said Agarwal, who got his second successive test one hundred on the day of the inauguration .
Indian pacemakers have already reduced Proteas to 36 for three on stumps on the second day.
“Twice a hundred has given the team an extra and a half session, which becomes very crucial. The association between Virat and Jadeja was fabulous and almost 230-odd ball (225), which is fabulous. If you are looking to win games, then you want to have that time to get 20 wickets, “Karnataka said.
“To get a 250, it’s no joke and the way he’s hitting is tremendous. The positivity and intention are fabulous. The records and their scores show everything we all need to see (learn).”
In fact, the first session of the second day set the tone since Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane barely gave any chance.
“Virat and Rahane during the last night, around the hour and a half, when the ball was a little under the lights, they played very tight. They didn’t give the opposition a wicket, in the first session and that put us in the seat of the driver and we could do what we did in the second session. ”
Ask him about his manic consistency since 2017, Agarwal talked about how he focused on ticking the boxes instead of instant results.
“You must put a mark (objective) and make sure that at the end of the year, at any time (frame) you have set, check those boxes,” he added.
“Sometimes you try hard and it’s not like you get an instant result. You have to keep doing your things, keep checking the boxes, keep improving, presenting performances year after year, the selection will finally come.”
A long season with the India team helped him, he said.
“The India A games really helped close the gap between national and international cricket, because the type of (national) teams you are facing and the type of equipment that other countries are deploying, for those games are top quality. So You know you’re almost playing international standard bowling.
