India vs South Africa | Muthusamy’s Costly No-ball to Virat Kohli Hurts Proteas
Virat Kohli got a great respite shortly after breaking his double ton when Senuran Muthusamy caught him with a slip by 208, but it turned out to be a no-ball.
South Africa threw 11 without balls, but the surprising fact was that the roulette of the left arm Muthusamy threw five of those. But he certainly would have hurt him more, since an outer edge had finally led to Faf du Plessis, who had received a strong capture.
Although Kohli had already hurt the Proteas by then, he continued adding another 46 races and ended up undefeated in 254 as India declared in 601/5.
Rabada also threw six no balls for South Africa.
Previously, Kohli completed his double hundred and also reached 7,000 runs in the process.
In the all-time list of most of a player’s double tons, Kohli’s 200 places him in fourth position, along with Jayawardene from Sri Lanka and Wally Hammond from England.
Another interesting statistic that was thrown after the Kohli milestone is that it is the second in the list of batters with the highest frequency of scoring double tons (with the criterion that the batter should have scored at least five double tons in his career). While Sir Donald Bradman is well ahead of the curve with 200 every 6.67 entries, Kohli is second in the list, reaching 200 every 19.71 entries.
