‘He’ll have to go away and work on some things’- Brendon McCullum reacts on Mitchell Santner’s poor run of form
Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spinner from New Zealand is currently struggling with his poor form in the longer format. He has been brought under the scanner of many former cricketing greats in the recent past. And, now, Brendon McCullum has come up with his opinion over the same and wants the Kiwi spinner to start playing in the domestic circuit in order to improve his game.
The left-arm spinner looked quite ineffective in the ongoing series between Australia and New Zealand. So far, Santner has grabbed only one wicket in two games and has been unsuccessful to restrict Aussie batsmen with his spin bowling. The concluding year has not gone well for the Santner, who has grabbed only five wickets in his five Tests. Also, it doesn’t give a proper description of his calibre and his ability to turn the ball.
Brendon McCullum opines on Mitchell Santner’s poor form
Brendon McCullum feels that Santner might not get to play the next Test match against Australia and it is fair as he is not able to perform well for the side. He will have to go back home and start working on his game playing in the domestic circuit. He also added the fact that everybody gets dropped at some stage in their career and there is nothing bad about the same. The former New Zealand player feels that a player should take it positively and mark his comeback with some strong performances in the national side.
“I don’t expect he’ll play this test match and I think for him he’ll have to go away and work on some things. Everyone gets dropped at some stage in their careers, and that doesn’t mean you can’t play at this level, it just means you’ve got some work to do so,” Brendon McCullum said as quoted by newshub.co.nz.
Australia has already taken a series win lead by 2-0 in the three-match Test series. The next and final game is scheduled to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney starting on 3rd of January 2020.
