Hashim Amla Set to Sign For English County Surrey

London: South Africa’s retired hitter Hashim Amla will sign for the English county club Surrey with a Kolpak record, as he has agreed to a two-year contract with the club. According to a report on ESPNcricinfo, Surrey expects the deal to be complete before the weekend and long before the end of the month, when the possibility of a Brexit without agreement could close the gap in future Kolpak records in the county game. The 36-year-old representatives also held talks with Middlesex and Hampshire.

It is almost certain that the club will be criticized for signing a second Kolpak record after Morne Morkel. However, they will argue that they are trying to compensate for the loss of key players in international service. Amla announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in August after the 2019 World Cup. He, however, made it clear that He will continue to participate in national cricket along with the Mzansi Super League T20 franchise tournament in South Africa. Amla played 349 games in all three Proteas formats and scored over 18,000 races, including 55 centuries and 88 half centuries. He remains the only Proteas cricket player to score a triple century in the Cricket Test. In 124 Tests, Amla had 9,282 races at 46.41 with 28 centuries and 41 years. His career at ODI was equally successful as he was ranked among the best hitters in the format, with the South African record of 27 tonnes of ODI. It was also the fastest in 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000 and 7,000 ODI races. In 181 ODI, Amla had 8,113 runs at 49.46 with 27 hundreds and 39 half centuries.
