Australia vs India: Sachin Tendulkar’s noble gesture ahead of Pink Test wins hearts

The battles between Sachin Tendulkar and Glenn McGrath are ones that will be etched in cricketing folklore forever. The two cricketing icons provided several memorable moments to the fans in their riveting duel through the 1990s and the early 2000s. While Tendulkar was the hope of the entire nation in his playing days, McGrath was the lynchpin of the Australian bowling attack for over a decade. Even though the two were fierce competitors on the field, off the playing arena, the two legends have mutual respect for each other.

Now, the New Year’s Test is slated to begin in Sydney from January 7th, 2021. It is also called the Pink Test, and the funds raised from the Test will be used for the welfare of cancer patients. This initiative was started by McGrath himself, in honor of his late wife Jane McGrath, who tragically passed away due to breast cancer.
India’s ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of the McGrath Foundation. The batting maestro took to Twitter to extend his support for this initiative. Tendulkar also added that it was a wonderful experience meeting his old adversary and termed the McGrath Foundation’s effort as a ‘noble’ cause.

“Happy to lend my support to @McGrathFdn’s noble effort during the #PinkTest to help patients dealing with breast cancer. It was wonderful meeting Glenn McGrath after long. My best wishes to him, his team & especially the nurses who are the backbone of this initiative.”

While Sachin Tendulkar is the all-time highest run-scorer in both Tests (15921) and ODI cricket (18426) and is the only batsman to have scored 100 international centuries, Glenn McGrath is the second-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Tests, having scalped 563 wickets in his illustrious career. Also, the two cricketing Superstars are members of the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame as well.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is currently locked at 1-1 and the series will be on the line when India and Australia once again lock horns in the third Test tomorrow at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). A win for India will allow them to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma has been appointed the vice-captain of the Indian Test side. As far as Australia are concerned, it has almost been confirmed that David Warner will take the field.
