Australia Captain Aaron Finch Battling to be Fit for Sri Lanka T20s
Limited captain Aaron Finch is struggling to be fit for Australia’s Twenty20 opening against Sri Lanka after suffering lateral tension.
The first-order hitter is waiting for Victoria’s current showdown against the Sheffield Shield against Western Australia in an attempt to be ready for the first of three games against Sri Lankan players in Adelaide on Sunday.
“It started as a small setback and it’s just a small tear on my side. So I hope it’s not too much. It’s been a week since I did it,” Finch told Perth 6PR radio over the weekend.
He said he expected to play a one-day game for his state on Wednesday, but “if I can still feel it and it is a bit annoying there, I think the medical staff will probably take the conservative route.”
If he is fit, Finch is expected to open Australian entries with David Warner, before Steve Smith arrives in the first fall.
After Adelaide, Australia faces the Sri Lankans led by Lasith Malinga in Brisbane and Melbourne before Pakistan reaches T20 in Sydney, Canberra and Perth.
