After Women’s IPL in the UAE, Indian women side likely to tour Sri Lanka
The Indian women’s cricket team is most probably set to travel Sri Lanka as BCCI is trying to arrange dates for the same. The women’s team is scheduled to begin their bilateral events from the Lanka tour after the successful completion of women’s IPL, which will be held in UAE from November 4-9.
An official from the Indian cricket board stated that women’s team may tour the island nation post-WIPL, but a big issue related to quarantine prevails.
After reaching Sri Lanka, the team is expected to undergo a mandatory quarantine of 14 days. The tour will host three ODIs and as many T20 matches and team members are excited to kick back their international engagements. Though they need some time while getting catching back the rhythm, it will come easily once they are on the field.
I would like to thank BCCI for their efforts: Mithali Raj
“There is a bright chance that India will be travelling to Sri Lanka after women’s IPL for a three-match ODI and three-match T20 series. Obviously, quarantine duration is an issue as we saw that Bangladesh men’s team’s tour was postponed. However, we are very hopeful that our women’s team will be playing Lanka,” stated a BCCI official as quoted by The Bridge.
The women’s team ODI skipper, Mithali Raj, stated that she will be extremely happy to don the Indian jersey again, and the WIPL in UAE will be good preparation for the girls. It will help in bringing back their desired form.
“It’s really exciting that in all probability, the Indian women’s team would start their international engagements even before the men’s team. The ‘WIPL’ will be a nice preparation for the tour. I would like to thank BCCI for their efforts, which shows that they care for women’s cricket,” stated Raj.
She also stated that she won’t say anything on the logistics part as it’s not in her hand, and it wouldn’t be right to say anything on quarantine rule. Just like every other thing, sports is also getting back to track gradually, and the tour is still two months away. Rest assured, everything will be done in their best interests.
