IPL 2020: Karnataka leg-spinner Pravin Dubey replaces Amit Mishra in DC squad
Delhi Capitals (DC) are riding high at the moment at the top of the points table with seven wins in nine matches. However, there have a lot of injuries in the camp with Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra getting ruled out. Even Rishabh Pant was on the sidelines for the last three matches and is expected to play their next game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Tuesday.
In the meantime, the DC franchise has signed the Karantaka leg-spinner Pravin Dubey as Amit Mishra‘s replacement. The latter got ruled out of the tournament after playing just three matches this year due to a flexor tendon injury to the ring finger while attempting a catch against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Interestingly, DC didn’t name an immediate replacement and took more than two weeks to finalise a player.
According to the reports in Times of India, Dubey has already moved into DC’s bio-bubble as he was readily available having travelled with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as their net bowler.
Who is Pravin Dubey?
Pravin Dubey made his first-class debut for Karantaka earlier this year. However, he had hogged the limelight in 2015 itself during the Karantaka Premier League. The RCB talent scouts had identified the leg-spinner and the franchise had also picked him the following year, in 2016, for Rs 35 lakh. After spending two seasons with the team, RCB released him and Pravin went unsold in the auction since then.
Though Dubey was disappointed after not being picked despite a good domestic season, he was delighted after getting a call-up to bowl in the nets. “I’m happy because it gives me an opportunity to showcase my talent,” he had told TOI. Now that he has got a chance, Pravin Dubey will be keen on picking the brains of Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel who are already doing well this season.
The 27-year-old will also get to rub shoulders with the likes of Ricky Ponting and Mohammad Kaif and will be looking forward to learn a lot in the upcoming few weeks.
