IPL 2020: Match 22, SRH vs KXIP – Pooran’s quick-fire knock, A big win for Sunrisers, Warner’s record fifty and more stats
Sunrisers Hyderabad jumped to No.3 position in the points table following a 69-run win over the Kings XI Punjab in Dubai. Electing to bat first, Sunrisers cruised to 160/0 by end of the 15th over as Jonny Bairstow (97) and David Warner (52) hit the KXIP bowlers all over the park. However, SRH lost five wickets in 19 deliveries after the time-out and could only post 201/6 in their 20 overs. During the chase, only Nicholas Pooran (77 off 37) got more than 15 runs for KXIP who were bundled out for 132 in 16.5 overs.

A record victory for Sunrisers:
69 – Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their first win by 50+ run margin over the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. SRH’s previous biggest IPL win against KXIP was by 45 runs during the 2019 season’s home match.
The 69-run win during SRH vs KXIP is also the 3rd biggest IPL win in terms of runs for SRH behind their 118-run victory against RCB in 2019 and an 85-run win over MI in 2016. This is also the biggest defeat for KXIP in terms of runs since the start of 2017 season.
Warner gets the better of KXIP yet again:
7 – David Warner now has led Sunrisers Hyderabad in seven IPL matches Kings XI Punjab winning in each of them. These are the most number of IPL matches for any captain against an opponent with 100% win record. Mumbai Indians won all six IPL games they played under Sachin Tendulkar against Kolkata Knight Riders. Warner struck fifties in each of his seven IPL matches as captain against KXIP.
A record fifty for Warner:
50 – David Warner became the first player in IPL history to smash fifty 50+ scores with his 52 during SRH vs KXIP on Thursday. Warner has struck 46 fifties and four centuries thus far in the league.
9* – Warner has scored a fifty in each of his last nine IPL matches against the Kings XI Punjab. No other player has scored more than seven fifties in succession against an opponent in the IPL. In overall, Warner hit 11 fifties in his IPL career against the Punjab franchise; the most 50+ scores by any player in the IPL against an opposition.
The record-breaking pair:
1 – Jonny Bairstow and David Warner became the first opening pair in IPL history to register multiple 150+ partnerships with their 160-run stand for the first wicket during SRH vs KXIP. The England-Australia pair shared an IPL record stand of 185 runs for the opening wicket against RCB during the home game in 2019.
Rashid delivers for SRH:
4 – Rashid Khan has conceded 12 or fewer runs in an IPL match on four occasions where he bowled full four overs. These are the joint-most times any bowler has conceded as few as 12 runs in an IPL game. Dale Steyn also had four such instances but played 42 games more than Rashid in his IPL career.
Pooran’s bats for KXIP alone:
17 – The 17-ball fifty by Nicholas Pooran during SRH vs KXIP is now the 2nd highest fifty in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab behind KL Rahul’s record 14-ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils in 2018. Pooran’s inning is also the 2nd fastest fifty in the IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad behind Yusuf Pathan’s 15-ball effort in 2014 for KKR.
77 – Nicholas Pooran’s 81-run knock is now the 4th highest individual score in the IPL coming during an all-out inning. Manan Vohra scored 95 against SRH in 2017 and Kumar Sangakkara made 94 against MI in 2008; also while playing for KXIP. Rahul Tripathi’s 81 on Wednesday against CSK stands 3rd in this list.
77 – Pooran’s 77 is now the 2nd highest score in the IPL where the second-highest score is as low as 11. KL Rahul, Prabhsimran Singh and extra runs were the joint 2nd highest contributor to KXIP’s inning with 11.
During an unsuccessful chase against Rajasthan Royals in 2018, KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 95 while the second-best is also only 11 by Marcus Stoinis.
End of KXIP’s misery:
1 – Kings XI Punjab became the first team in the Twenty20 history to conceded 150+ opening stands in consecutive matches. The Chennai Super Kings registered an unbeaten 181-run stand during their 10-wicket win on Sunday.
219 – Kings XI Punjab bowled 36.3 overs i.e. 219 deliveries without taking a wicket between Rohit Sharma’s dismissal on October 1st and David Warner’s dismissal during SRH vs KXIP. The Kings XI conceded 408 runs in this period and got hit for 40 fours and 16 maximums.
