IPL 2020: Match 2, DC vs KXIP – Delhi Capitals Player Ratings

The match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) went right down the wire. Both the teams had their moments in the encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. There were a number of twists and turns.

However, in the end, it’s the Capitals, led by the young Shreyas Iyer, who managed to register victory in the humdinger. KXIP needed one run off their last three balls, but Marcus Stoinis had other plans and the game went into the Super Over.

After the 40 overs, the scores were tied at 157. Mayank Agarwal tried his heart out, scoring 89 off 60 balls with seven fours and four sixes. But to his despair, his efforts went in vain. Throughout Punjab’s innings, Agarwal was the lone ranger, but DC countered the threat.

Here are the DC Player Ratings for the match-
Prithvi Shaw- 2.5/10
Prithvi Shaw started his knock with a boundary, but he couldn’t carry on with his knock. In nine balls, the youngster could only manage five runs and perished to Mohammed Shami. He went for the pull-shot, but holed out to Chris Jordan. In the field, he took a decent catch to dismiss Karun Nair.

Shikhar Dhawan- 1/10
Shikhar Dhawan also had a game to forget. In the second over of the match, he was involved in a horrendous mix-up with Shaw resulting in his run-out. It happened after KL Rahul dropped him when Dhawan went for a pull. He couldn’t open his account and gave the Kings XI their first wicket.

Shimron Hetmyer- 4/10
Shimron Hetmyer’s maiden appearance for DC turned out to be a forgettable one. He started with a boundary, but could never get the ball away. In 13 balls, he got seven before becoming Shami’s second victim. But in the field, he made some amends after he took Mayank Agarwal’s catch.

Shreyas Iyer (C)- 7.5/10
Shreyas Iyer was one of the main reasons why the Capitals managed to put up a respectable score after losing three early wickets. He scored 39 runs with three sixes and shared a 73-run stand with Rishabh Pant. In the second innings, he took a relatively easy, but crucial catch of Glenn Maxwell.

Rishabh Pant (wk)- 7/10
Rishabh Pant wasn’t at his fluent best, but he helped DC stage a comeback after the early wickets. He played an uncharacteristic knock of 31 off 29 balls with the help of four fours. The left-hander’s stand with skipper Iyer laid the platform for his team to end up with a reasonable score.

Marcus Stoinis- 9.5/10
Marcus Stoinis came to bat at a stage when the Capitals needed someone to up the ante in the death overs. The Australian batter didn’t disappoint as he scored 53 off 21 with seven fours and three sixes. Even with the ball in hand, Stoinis returned with the prized scalps of Agarwal and Jordan.

Axar Patel- 8/10
Axar Patel couldn’t get going with the bat in hand, but he, well and truly, made amends with the ball in hand. In his four overs, the left-arm spinner gave away a mere 14 runs, bowling 14 dot balls. Most importantly, he didn’t concede a single boundary. He was able to keep the batsmen in check.

Ravi Ashwin- 9/10
Ravi Ashwin bowled only a solitary over on his maiden appearance for the Capitals. But in the space of six balls, he was able to set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Capitals’ dugout. He got rid of Nair and then cleaned up Nicholas Pooran, who was unable to open his account after three deliveries.

Kagiso Rabada- 9.5/10
Kagiso Rabada picked 25 wickets in 2019 and he started the 2020 edition on a grand note. In his four overs, he dismissed Maxwell and Krishnappa Gowtham and gave away only 28 runs. Thereafter, he pinned KL Rahul and Pooran in the Super Over to take the Capitals to victory in their opening match.

Anrich Nortje- 6.5/10
Anrich Nortje, who came in as Chris Woakes’ replacement, had his moments, as he bowled with pace and venom. To his dismay, he was not able to get amongst the wickets. In four overs, he gave away 33 runs. He also bowled 11 dot balls, showing that he managed to hit the right channels.

Mohit Sharma- 6/10
Mohit Sharma started with KL Rahul’s crucial wicket, but he was taken for plenty eventually. After he cleaned up Rahul, he was oozing with confidence. However, Agarwal launched an attack on him and he turned out to be KXIP’s most expensive bowler on the day. In four overs, Mohit gave 45 runs.
