IPL 2020: Sunil Gavaskar names one player who can turn out to be RCB’s match-winner
After many delays, IPL 2020– the much-awaited T20 extravaganza is set to hit the floors tomorrow on September 19th. Two heavyweights– MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns with each other in the season-opener at Abu Dhabi
While both MI and CSK have tasted success in the league, there’s one team which is yet to achieve glory. Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to lift the IPL trophy in the history of the tournament.
The Bangalore franchise has remained an underperformer for all the seasons played so far. Despite being equipped with a robust squad, RCB haven’t been successful to clinch the coveted IPL trophy even once. For this season, RCB have included world-class players like Aaron Finch, Adam Zampa and Chris Morris in their squad. Along with players, they’ve also made changes to the support staff, including former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson and former Australian cricket Simon Katich in their management.
Any team that has Kohli and De Villiers should never be short of runs: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar, in his recent column for Sportstar, discussed RCB’s woeful IPL journey so far. According to the former India opener, no player has stepped up when Kohli and AB de Villiers have failed to deliver.
“Any team that has Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers should never be short of runs. The problem is, when these two failed, then the others haven’t put their hands up,” said Gavaskar.
As the tournament is going to be played in the UAE this year, Gavaskar has picked a player of his choice who can emerge as a match-winner for RCB. Gavaskar has placed his bet on Yuzvendra Chahal to shine in IPL 2020, considering the pitches in the UAE are favourable for spinners and difficult for batsmen.
Chahal is the leader of RCB’s spin attack and is confirmed to play all the matches. His career has flourished a lot in the past few years, especially after shifting his base from MI to RCB. In 84 IPL matches, the leg-spinner has scalped 100 wickets including 2 four-wicket hauls.
Eyeing to clinch their maiden IPL trophy this season, Virat Kohli and his troops will start their campaign on 21st September against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
