Mohammed Shami’s troubles with his estranged wife Hasin Jahan don’t seem to end any soon. It’s now been more than 17 months since the duo is engaged into a brawl. Amidst the commotion, both Shami and Jahan have had to face the wrath of the police. Jahan had previously brought charges against the Indian pacer for domestic violence and many other matters.
In a recent development, it has been learned that Shami has been issued with an arrest warrant. The Bengal fast bowler now has 15 days in which to surrender and apply for bail. The speedster recently played the two-match Test series in the West Indies. As far as Jahan is concerned, she has been fighting for justice for a long time and hasn’t given up despite failures.
Earlier she said that the police have been harassing her rather than Shami, whom she feels could get away being a big cricketer. Lately, after the issuance of the warrant, she sounded grateful and satisfied, and is now looking for further progress on the ever-lasting case.
“I’m grateful to judicial system. I have been fighting for justice more than a year now. You all know, Shami thinks that he is all too powerful, that he is a big cricketer,” Jahan was quoted as saying in NDTV.
BCCI to wait for more revelations
In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was clear cut in saying that no action will be taken against Shami as of now as it’s too early. It’s only after seeing the charge-sheet that the world’s richest cricket board will come to a decision. The same was conveyed by a top functionary in the country’s cricket board.
“Yes, we do understand that an arrest warrant has been issued. But don’t really see us getting involved in this at this point in time. Once we see the charge sheet, we can decide how things stand and if the BCCI constitution calls for any action. But at this point in time, I would say it is too early to take a call on the matter,” the functionary was quoted as saying.
Earlier this year, Shami said that he is ready to face kind of consequence, but doesn’t want the same to hamper his cricketing career. For the time being, more revelations surrounding the matter remain to be seen.
