Out-of-form Fakhar Zaman hopeful of evading T20 World Cup snub

Fakhar Zaman’s T20 career has been a witness to a down-slide and he is not being able to arrest his slump. The Pakistan batter has scored 15 runs in his last five T20Is, including a couple of ducks. In fact, since July 2018, Fakhar has played 12 T20Is and had a top score of 24. In the shortest format, he also couldn’t perform to expectations for Glamorgan in this year’s T20 Blast in England.
Lately, the Mardan-born got scores of 0 and 2 versus Australia and was then dropped for the final T20I of the three-match series. Having difficulty in finding light at the end of the tunnel, Zaman hasn’t shied away from admitting his poor run of form. The southpaw understands that it won’t be a cakewalk for him to break into the side if he doesn’t remove the chinks in his armour.

“It’s pretty clear that I am playing badly and going through a rough patch. I will not offer any excuses. The time has come for me to correct my flaws because if I don’t play well then it would be tough to get into the side,” Fakhar was quoted as saying in Geo News.
I have made mistakes, admits Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar is currently a part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Quaid-e-Azam domestic first-class tournament. In the only game he played against Southern Punjab, Fakhar could manage 23 off 38 with four fours after which he gave a caught and bowled to speedster Umaid Asif.
“I have made mistakes but I intend on regaining my lost momentum by taking part in the domestic circuit. That is why I have been playing four-day matches in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy,” Fakhar said while emphasising the tournament as a platform to regain his touch.
Fakhar knows that if he doesn’t start scoring runs, it will be hard for him to go to Australia for the T20 World Cup. “I had learned a lot from my time in Australia and I hope that a year from now, I would be ready to picked in the T20 squad,” he added.

Pakistan are ICC’s number-one ranked T20I team and Fakhar has played a massive role in the team’s upsurge. But of late, both Pakistan and Fakhar are going though a tough time and will be hoping to make amends at the earliest.
